The route ends at the Santa Monica Pier on the Pacific Ocean. The California stretch passes through the Mojave Desert, the historic Wigwam Motel in San Bernardino, and the sprawl of greater Los Angeles before arriving at the famous end-of-the-road sign at the pier overlooking the Pacific.
