Missouri carries the highway past the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, through the Ozark hills and the towns of Cuba, Rolla, and Joplin. The Meramec Caverns along the way were once a hideout for Jesse James, and the roadside murals of Cuba have turned a small town into an open-air gallery.
